The HCDBC put out a slate card for its members and the black community that had a “no recommendation” for the HD63 race.

Ouch!

Lisa Montelione is facing Republican Shawn Harrison in the HD63 race, who you may recall, received the endorsement of the well-respected Frank Reddick.

In fact, Lisa Montelione has not received the endorsement of any of the local African American elected officials.

I believe she dipped all the way down to South Miami to Khionne McGhee to get an endorsement.

Damn!

According to an email sent out by HCDBC president, Robin Lockett, Montelione does not address any of the Black community’s issues and concerns, and therefore, the “no recommendation” was the best she could get.

There were a couple of members of the Caucus who still had that plantation mentality, and despite a vote that overwhelmingly decided the “no recommendation” decision on Montelione and the backing of the majority of the Caucus members, President Lockett had to straighten those individuals out.

Here is an excerpt obtained from the email:

“We have been loyal democrats and if someone was speaking or acting upon our issues, we would not be having this discussion! So, for the HCDBC, to put a candidate on our slate card that has not supported our issues i.e., supporting Pam Bondi- Host Committee; Supporting Toledo and both are republicans and yes the DEC wanted to sanction her, kick her out or do something to her but Oh, she had not signed a loyalty oath. (I was in that meeting), but this candidate who was an elected official has voted against any compromise regarding the citizens review board which would have helped the black community, The Carver City community coming out to defend their community issue and she did not support it; and the mere fact that she along with others did not support Frank Reddick as Chairman and had to vote 13 times to pull that coup and Everyone was upset about that, but yes as usual we forgot and I know some of you were beating his door down for his endorsement so there I assume is some type of respect there for him. There are no local leaders thus far that have come out to endorse her, and no we can not include President Obama, lol, he was provided a list by the FDP and if he knew what she has done, I know he would have issue with it.”

You go Robin Lockett!!

Now there is a Black Caucus President who is standing up for her community! Why just vote for someone simply because they have a D by their name when they aren’t addressing your community’s needs?

Perhaps Robin can teach the state Black Caucus a thing or two!

I guess Montelione should be happy with the NR, which means neither yes or no.  I would have told people not to vote for her AT ALL!

If she can’t be there for the Black community, the Black community should NOT be there for her!

As my grandmother says, show her that fat meat is greasy!!

Start calling these candidates that don’t address issues that are important to the Black community out! If they are only coming around during election time, don’t give them your vote!

More Black voters need to become issue-oriented, and pay attention to who is concerned with your issues and who isn’t. Pay attention to who is walking the walk, and who is just talking the talk. For God’s sake, stop putting all of your eggs into one basket and stop simply voting because there is a D by a candidates name.

Take control of your political destiny.

Chain Gang Charlie Is Back, Unfortunately For Black Folks In CD 13! http://mywomenonthemove.com/chain-gang-charlie-is-back-unfortunately-for-black-folks/ http://mywomenonthemove.com/chain-gang-charlie-is-back-unfortunately-for-black-folks/#respond Fri, 21 Oct 2016 12:26:43 +0000 http://mywomenonthemove.com/?p=1603 CHARLES CRISTGood Grief! Chain Gang Charlie Crist is back! I thought after 2014, Black folks would have seen the last of this snake slithering through our churches, slobbering on our kids, and pretending to be Frederick Douglass reincarnated.

But, alas, with redistricting, and what he sees as a sure thing, a reprieve from Charlie Crist was not to be. Charlie Crist hopes to do what he loves best of all. Not govern, mind you,  but be an elected official.

Now, before I get into the meat and potatoes of what I have to say, I want to point something out to you that should grate on your nerves as much as it does mine.

During the threat of Hurricane Matthew, I went to St. Petersburg to hideout. While I was there, I went to a debate between Ol’ Chain Gang Charlie and David Jolly at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club.

As you can imagine, there weren’t very many people of color there. I probably could count us on one hand, and have a couple of fingers left over.

Needless to say, Crisco Crist wasn’t spouting President Obama’s name every other word, like he does when he is speaking to Black people.

I guess he decided not to treat them like adolescents, who only needed to hear a trigger word to fall in line. They were treated like they had the intelligence to listen to ISSUES, unlike plantation black folks, right?

At any rate, I would HOPE black people are tired of being treated like children, in that the only thing Charlie Crist has to do is mention Barack Obama, and he has you and your vote all sewn up.

Now, speaking of President Obama. I get it. I know the political games that are played. Make no mistake about it though, after January 20th, 2017,  President Obama will not be coming back to get into the political fray with Congress or Hillary Clinton, so while I appreciate him and all that he has done, I’m looking at the CANDIDATE, and Charlie Crist is still the same guy who changes his positions and his core values as often as he changes his underwear!

img_0194

When Crist was trying to please the Republicans, President Obama AND Obamacare were horrible. When Marco Rubio ran him out of the Republican Party and he needed a new home, he decided to run over Kendrick Meek.

You guys haven’t forgotten that story, have you? I sure haven’t. It goes back to the fact that Crist will use Black folks however he can, to get what he wants. Kendrick Meek won the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate seat in 2010 fair and square, but because Chain Gang Charlie thought he was entitled to that Senate seat at all costs, he wanted Kendrick, a BLACK man, pushed out of the race for HIM!

It was at that point that Crist dropped his Republican Party and ran as an Independent, and then started turning other democrats against Kendrick. Run over the the Black man, right Charlie?

Reminds me of when Charlie wanted to prove how tough he was on crime, which is how he GOT the name “Chain Gang Charlie”.

A name he was proud of and joked about. I see no humor in it, and neither should you. I recently came across a video on YouTube about Charlie and his chain gang Charlie days. I understand that we are a forgiving people, but not everyone is deserving of our forgiveness. Particularly snakes like Charlie Crist.

There are phony ads running in CD13 of Crist’s opponent with Donald Trump, but why aren’t they talking about the TRUE relationship between Crist and Trump?

I’m going to close with an article that I think is very important to read. It accurately sums up what is happening to the Black community politically. Our issues are being ignored. WE are being ignored, except during the last few weeks of an election cycle, and then it’s only words and photo ops. We have become a captured political group.

It’s up to us to change that.

Pam Keith, Racism Claims, And Debates http://mywomenonthemove.com/pam-keith-racism-claims-and-debates/ http://mywomenonthemove.com/pam-keith-racism-claims-and-debates/#comments Sat, 30 Jul 2016 16:24:06 +0000 http://mywomenonthemove.com/?p=1593 Pam KeithYou would have to be living under a rock in Florida not to know that I’m the FIRST one to call out racism against Black people. I call out racism so much that I have been called racist myself.

That being said, WFTV Channel 9 in Orlando is having a debate between Patrick Murphy and Alan Grayson, to be aired August 12. That debate will NOT include Pam Keith, Reginald Luster, or Rocky De Le Fuente. The reason is because none of the three is polling 15%.

Luster and De Le Fuente have for the most part been silent. Pam Keith, not so much.

Keith has said that WFTV is being racist and sexist in keeping her out of the debate. She told the Miami Herald that basically this station is keeping people from knowing about her candidacy, and doing a disservice to women and minorities.

This sentiment was later joined by the Florida Chapter of NOW in a press release where they called on the station to allow Pam Keith to debate. The Florida Progressive Caucus, without commenting on the claims of racism and sexism, said all candidates should be allowed to debate.

Surprisingly, and don’t die of a heart attack people, I, the president of The Democratic African American Women Caucus, was the only one who said Pam Keith should NOT be allowed to participate in the debate because WFTV was NOT being racist or sexist.

Pam Keith doesn’t meet the requirement of 15% in polls. She may not like it, her supporters may not like it, but that is the reality of the situation. At what point does Pam Keith take some responsibility for where her campaign is? The bar of 15% may be too high. The bar of 15% may be unfair. The bar of 15% may be unreasonable.

The bar of 15% is NOT racist.

There is entirely too much racism in this world for false claims. I get that Pam Keith wants to participate in this debate badly. I get that the exposure could possibly generate much needed funds for her struggling campaign. The last FEC report showed her having $2488.00 cash on hand.

That doesn’t mean the label of racist should be attached to the television station, and I can’t, and won’t, support that.

If Keith had said she should be on that stage because of her qualifications, she would be right. To use racism in this manner cheapens her abilities, and it also hurts people who are genuinely victims of racism and sexism for that matter.

Let’s face it, the only -ism that Pam Keith is suffering from is broke-ism.

It  takes money to raise name recognition. It takes name recognition to raise poll numbers. In this case, it takes poll numbers to participate in the debate.

Politics is a contact sport. It isn’t for the weak or the feint- hearted.

Crying racism to try to bully WFTV into allowing her to participate in the debate is basically a punk move.

For someone who says she is the alternative to the status quo that people are tired of, she is looking an awful lot like Al Sharpton to me.

Someone said to me that she is desperate, and desperate times call for desperate measures.

Ok, she can cry wolf. That doesn’t mean I have to join in on that mess.

It takes MONEY to run a statewide campaign. Lots of money, especially if you have never held office and no one knows who you are.

Pam Keith is a tremendous speaker. I firmly believe she would hold her own on a stage with Grayson and Murphy. I think her resume is outstanding. Hell I was one of her earliest supporters!

The reality of this situation, though, is that she doesn’t meet the criteria to participate.

What is curious to me is that Alan Grayson and David Jolly held a debate. Pam Keith was not invited to participate in that one. There were NO cries of racism or sexism in that case.

Why this one?

I’ll tell you why. Publicity. Keith knows this debate is going to be watched by a lot of people and she wants the publicity. Let’s face it, $2,488.00 certainly can’t buy that.

Crying racism is not the way to get it.

So, in closing, I can’t sign on to this. For those who have jumped on to that bandwagon, you are doing more harm to actual victims of racism than you realize.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz Will Do Anything To Stay Away From CD23! http://mywomenonthemove.com/debbie-wasserman-schultz-will-do-anything-to-stay-away-from-cd23/ http://mywomenonthemove.com/debbie-wasserman-schultz-will-do-anything-to-stay-away-from-cd23/#respond Mon, 25 Jul 2016 15:52:30 +0000 http://mywomenonthemove.com/?p=1584 DNC Convention protestorsDWS has made it clear. She would rather do anything other than spend time in Congressional District 23. The former Chair of the Democratic National Committee used that position to stay away.

She spent much more time outside the district than she did in. There are cities in her district, primarily the ones where minorities live, that NEVER see or hear from her. She chalked that up to being the head of the DNC.

Ok, Debbie, you WERE the head of the DNC. You aren’t anymore.Debbie Wasserman Schultz

One would think she would take this opportunity to spend some time in her district. Maybe debate her primary opponent, Tim Canova.

Oh no, not Debbie Wasserman Schultz. She’s looking for her next excuse to stay away from the district, and Hillary Clinton gave it to her.

Clinton made her an “honorary” chair of her presidential campaign. Debbie said she is “looking forward” to traveling the country and helping Hillary Clinton get elected.

Exactly when does Debbie expect to represent Congressional District 23?

When does she plan on addressing constituent issues?

Why is she doing everything she can to NOT be present in her district?

She has been missing in action as long as she was DNC Chair.

Is she that afraid of debating Tim Canova, that she wants to hit the road as soon as possible? Ok we get that you are the coward of broward. We get that you are afraid in Dade. Exactly who wants to see you outside of your district?

I find it hard to believe that Hillary Clinton would let one of the most hated politicians in the Democratic Party travel around and try to get people to vote for her.

Who the hell is going to listen to Debbie Wasserman Schultz? She just got booed off the stage in Philadelphia by the Florida delegation.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that if Wasserman Schultz’s own home state delegation boos her to the point that she had to be escorted by security off the stage, the rest of the country is going to light her up like she was a Christmas tree!

I’m hoping that Hillary only made that announcement to try to keep Wasserman Schultz from being totally humiliated. ( it didn’t work)

Hillary is too smart to let the albatross that is Debbie Wasserman Schultz hang around her neck!

Hell, Hillary Clinton is dealing with her own negative numbers when it comes to the country. The last thing she needs is to add DWS’s negatives to her campaign.

Congressional District 23 has to ask itself: do you want a representative that doesn’t want to spend the time actually representing you?

Do you want someone who would rather be doing ANYTHING except being in the district she represents?

Debbie was unceremoniously thrown out of her position as DNC Chair.

Perhaps it’s time for her to be booted out of Congress totally.

She apparently doesn’t want to do it anyway. It’s a stepping stone that gets in the way of her ambition.

Why Black Communities In Florida Congressional District 23 Should Look At Tim Canova http://mywomenonthemove.com/why-black-communities-in-congressional-district-23-should-look-at-tim-canova/ http://mywomenonthemove.com/why-black-communities-in-congressional-district-23-should-look-at-tim-canova/#respond Sun, 03 Jul 2016 12:27:26 +0000 http://mywomenonthemove.com/?p=1573 Tim CanovaAs the late, great poet and author Maya Angelou said: “When someone shows you who they are believe them; the first time.”

Those words of wisdom are ones to live by, no more so than any place like politics. Nothing frustrates me more than candidates who only come around at election time to churches, as if all Black people congregate in churches, or contact who they perceive to be community leaders, grease their palms, in order to secure the “Black vote”.

Nothing except ELECTED OFFICIALS who ignore the Black communities in their districts until it’s election time again, and they are FINALLY faced with an opponent.

Yes, I am talking about Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Representative Wasserman Schultz has been VERY responsive to Aventura constituents. She has been EXTREMELY responsive to Weston constituents.

Aventura and Weston aren’t the totality of her district, however.

What about the Constituents in Dania? Don’t they deserve the same level of responsiveness? How about Hallandale Beach? Aren’t their concerns just as valid as constituents in Weston?

Well you wouldn’t know it by the level of responsiveness these communities actually get from Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Yes, she was the keynote speaker at a recent Haitian-American Democratic Caucus Luncheon. I’ll bet you dollars to donuts that she never would have accepted had it not been election time.

We all know that part of why Tim Canova is running against her is her lack of responsiveness to him (I guarantee you he doesn’t live in Aventura or Weston), but what you may not know is that there was another person who contemplated a run against Wasserman Schultz.

Stephanie Anderson, a Black woman, wanted to run against Wasserman Schultz and Wasserman Schultz’s lack of responsiveness played a large role as to why. Anderson was running as NPA. For whatever reason, Stephanie didn’t qualify, but Stephanie lives in Hollywood.

Hollywood is another city in CD23 with communities of color that Tim Canovahave been forgotten by Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

In talking with residents from that district, they realize that she puts more energy into certain zip codes than others, only until now, they never had a choice. They were stuck with her.

Now there is a choice. You know what Wasserman Schultz is going to do for the communities of color, and that’s pretty much nothing, so why would you keep someone who you KNOW doesn’t give a rat’s crack about you?

When I was discussing that same Haitian-American Luncheon with some people who went there, they told me that everyone was respectful of Wasserman Schultz’s position, and let’s face it, they would be crazy not to be.

What rubbed them the wrong way, however, is that she didn’t focus on issues that were important to THEM. She gave a generic speech, posed for pictures, and then beat feet out of there.

I spoke to several local and state elected officials, and they all seem to have similar stories: They don’t hear from her. She doesn’t pay any attention to their communities. In short, they feel she doesn’t care about them or their concerns.

It’s one thing to have constituents say this. Realistically you can’t get to EVERY constituent in a district, although apparently Wasserman Schultz isn’t getting to any in certain zip codes (Dania, Hollywood, Hallandale, you get the picture).

When you have local and state ELECTED OFFICIALS saying it, there is a problem.

It’s time to try something new. It’s time to try SOMEONE new. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and thinking you are going to get a different result.

Wasserman Schultz has shown you who she is. Believe her.

Before anyone starts throwing the diversity of the DNC in my face, I’m going to stop you right in your tracks. The diversity at the DNC has more to do with people like Virgie Rollins, the DNC Black Caucus Chair, and others who FOUGHT tooth and nail for diversity.

If you don’t know about Virgie Rollins, you better ask somebody, or better yet, read this article on this spectacular woman. I am honored to call her a personal friend of mine.

Tim Canova was tired of the way the Payday Loan industry was treating people of color and the poor, so he decided to do something about it.

Tim Canova was tired of the private prison industry, that profited off locking up people of color, and contributed immensely to the school to prison pipeline, and decided to do something about it.

Tim Canova was tired of the large corporations using their money and influence to buy politicians and determine the costs of our drugs, and the way our elections turned out, so he decided to do something about it.

Here’s the thing: He can’t do it alone. If you are sick of the same tired, unappreciative politicians ( cue Debbie Wasserman Schultz), then you HAVE to help Tim Canova to help you.

Tim CanovaThat means getting out there on August 30th, and voting. Vote for change. Vote for someone who isn’t bought by corporations. Vote for someone who isn’t going to ignore you because of where you live. Vote for someone who cares about whether you have access to lower cost drugs, and higher paying jobs. Vote for someone who cares that you are being ripped off by loan sharks.

If you plan on voting for someone who meets all of the above criteria, your choice is easy. There is no way in hell you could vote for Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Tim Canova is the only sane choice.

Tampa City Councilman Frank Reddick Endorses Betty Reed For SD19 http://mywomenonthemove.com/tampa-city-councilman-frank-reddick-endorses-betty-reed-for-sd19/ http://mywomenonthemove.com/tampa-city-councilman-frank-reddick-endorses-betty-reed-for-sd19/#comments Sat, 02 Jul 2016 11:53:47 +0000 http://mywomenonthemove.com/?p=1568 imageFrank Reddick, Tampa District 1 City Councilman, and former Chair of the City Council, endorsed former representative Betty Reed to succeed Arthenia Joyner as the Senator for District 19 on Friday.

“I am honored to be endorsed by Tampa City Councilman Frank Reddick, a great community leader and longtime friend.” Said Reed.

Reed is in a four-way Aug. 30 primary with current representatives Darryl Rouson(D)-St. Petersburg, Ed Narain(D)-Tampa, and Attorney Augie Ribeiro, also of St. Petersburg.

In the only public poll conducted on the race, which didn’t include Ribeiro, he hadn’t gotten in the race yet, Betty Reed was in second place behind Darryl Rouson, Ed Narain was in last place. The poll made the caveat that it was skewed towards Pinellas County, which tended to favor Rouson, so Reed could well have been in first place. Rumors have swirled that several unreleased polls have been completed showing Reed in first place.

Frank Reddick has been a champion for his predominantly African American district, standing up to City Administration over its treatment of poor Black residents, something that Reed is also known for. Reddick’s district covers Ybor City, as well as parts of East Tampa, which could play a huge part in the Hillsborough portion of the Senate District.

If you recall, the state house seat currently held by Narain, HD61, was held by Betty Reed, who was term-limited, opening it up for newcomers.

It was the endorsement of Ed Narain by Betty Reed that put him over the top in his contentious battle against Sean Shaw, who once again, is running for HD61.

Some in the Hillsborough Community are quite upset with Ed Narain, as they see him as having “stabbed Betty Reed in the back”, as one SD19 constituent told me.

“I went to the Hillsborough Democratic Black Caucus Candidate Debate last Saturday because I wanted to ask Narain why he did that. I wanted to look him in the eyes and ask him why would he treat someone who helped him the way Mrs. Reed did, like that. I voted for him when he ran against Shaw. I won’t be voting for him again.” Said the Tampa resident.

Narain was a “no-show” at the debate. Some think it was because he doesn’t want to face the community and answer those exact questions. Some, who contributed to Narain’s re-election to HD61, have even asked for the return of those contributions.

The next debate between the candidates will take place in Pinellas County. It will be interesting to see if Narain shows up there.

Betty Reed has raised the least amount of money of the three candidates who have been in the race the longest, but as she is showing by the polls, money isn’t everything when one is as beloved by the community as she seems to be.
Ed Narain, who has raised the most, as stated earlier, is in last place.

It was thought that Rouson would benefit by Reed and Narain splitting the Hillsborough vote, but now that Ribeiro has entered from Pinellas, that may no longer be the case.

AFL-CIO Says No To Debbie Wasserman Schultz! http://mywomenonthemove.com/afl-cio-says-no-to-debbie-wasserman-schultz/ http://mywomenonthemove.com/afl-cio-says-no-to-debbie-wasserman-schultz/#comments Sat, 18 Jun 2016 17:07:49 +0000 http://mywomenonthemove.com/?p=1560 Leslie W 2015For the first time in 24 years, Debbie Wasserman Schultz will not get the endorsement of the AFL-CIO. Despite getting the recommendation of the Broward County chapter, Wasserman Schultz did not get the required 2/3 votes to secure the endorsement.

Some state AFL-CIO chapters have stated that there would be no endorsement of Democrats who voted in favor of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

That includes Wasserman Schultz!

If you remember, Wasserman Schultz’s primary opponent, Tim Canova, protested the recommendation that Wasserman Schultz be endorsed, citing their failure to screen all candidates.

Turns out Canova was right.

At a June 12, 2016 meeting in Orlando, where AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka was present, as well as Wasserman Schultz,  delegates from the CWA and the NNU spoke out against Wasserman Schultz, resulting in the failed endorsement.

Wasserman Schultz challenged the position of the national leadership to no avail.

Both the CWA and the NNU have endorsed Tim Canova.

Richard Templin, president of the Florida AFL-CIO confirmed to me, via phone, that Wasserman Schultz did not receive the required number of votes needed for the endorsement.

Wasserman Schultz’s vote in favor of the TPP, as well as her role in pushing the Democratic Party to the Right, were the major bones of contention cited by Delegates.

This is another blow to Wasserman Schultz, as she recently was relieved of control of the DNC to Hillary Clinton’s campaign staff.

Tim Canova, who recently passed the 2 million dollar mark in donations, is really giving Wasserman Schultz a run for her money in Congressional District 23.

Canova has challenged Wasserman Schultz to a series of 6 debates, where she will have to defend her record publicly.

So far, she has refused to commit to any debates.

Politicians are realizing that votes have consequences, and for Wasserman Schultz, one of those consequences is losing the support of major labor unions.

It is yet to be seen if she will also lose her Congressional seat.

Congressional District 23 is heavily Jewish, however Wasserman Schultz’s vote for the Iran agreement has angered many in the Jewish community.

Her performance as DNC Chair has angered many Democrats across the country, resulting in petitions and calls for her removal as Chair, the loudest critic being Bernie Sanders.

Wasserman Schultz, who received $68,000 dollars from the Payday Loan industry, backtracked on her support of the industry after heavy pressure from Tim Canova and Allied Progress.

Some say it’s too little, too late.

Wasserman Schultz has been a divisive figure in the Democratic Party mostly due to her handling of the Presidential primary.

Some feel she attempted to stack the deck in Hillary Clinton’s favor.

A DNC member, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said perhaps now that Wasserman Schultz has been relieved of her duties, the picketing that routinely went on at the DNC will stop, and things can get back to normal. The national convention is coming up, and the party is preparing to officially nominate the Democratic nominee, and unite to defeat Donald Trump.

As far as CD-23, things are just starting to heat up and a lot of eyes will be on that race to see if Canova can pull off in Florida what Dave Brat pulled off in Virginia, when he defeated Eric Cantor.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz: “The Empress Has No Clothes” http://mywomenonthemove.com/debbie-wasserman-schultz-the-empress-has-no-clothes/ http://mywomenonthemove.com/debbie-wasserman-schultz-the-empress-has-no-clothes/#respond Fri, 17 Jun 2016 10:36:04 +0000 http://mywomenonthemove.com/?p=1558 Leslie W 2015Debbie Wasserman Schultz is out as DNC Chair. The only thing left to do is relinquish the title, because as of now, she has no power!

We all know the story, The Emperor Has No Clothes”, where the Emperor allowed himself to be dressed in nonexistent clothes for a procession through town, never admitting that he was too unfit and stupid to see what he was wearing.

Well, enter Debbie Wasserman Schultz starring as the Empress.

Hillary Clinton has replaced her with Brandon Davis, former SEIU political director.

In other words, Hillary Clinton did not pick Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Rather than admit that she is odd woman out, Wasserman Schultz played coy on her future at the DNC when speaking with Meet The Press Daily’s Chuck Todd.

She will “wear” the title of DNC Chair, however her control and input are just as invisible as the emperor’s clothes.

It ain’t there!

Amy Dacey is continuing her role as CEO, complete with the power associated with it.

Jen O’Malley is continuing her role planning for the general election.

Wasserman Schultz could have continued in her role as Chair, along with the power and control, but Clinton said no.

Of course that had a lot to do with Bernie Sanders and his supporters, but it wasn’t just Sanders supporters who wanted Wasserman Schultz out.

By all rights, she should have been booted after the 2014 debacle, where Democrats lost everything they could lose.

Now, with the title alone of DNC Chair and no responsibilities, there should be no excuse for Wasserman Schultz not to debate her primary opponent, Tim Canova, the 2 million-dollar man.

Yes, you read that right. Tim Canova has just gone over the 2 million-dollar mark in donations to his campaign.

He did it without the big ticket fundraising, anywhere from $500 dollars well into the tens of thousands, that Wasserman Schultz raises money.

Canova raised his money the old fashioned way.

Everyday working class people from all over donated an average of $17.00 to help rid Florida District 23 of Wasserman Schultz.

If Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are polling as the most disliked figures in politics right now, it’s only because Wasserman Schultz wasn’t included in the polls!

Canova has challenged Wasserman Schultz to 6 debates, the same number she initially scheduled for the Presidential primary.

So far, Wasserman Schultz has avoided committing to any debates with Canova, like it was the Zika virus.

She has repeatedly gone on National television and touted her record.

Now it is time for her to do so in public, against a very viable opponent.

The people in Congressional District 23 deserve to hear Wasserman Schultz defend her record.

They are entitled to know why she backed the usurious Payday loan industry.

They are entitled to know why she backed the TPP, trans-pacific partnership.

They deserve to know why she was so against medical marijuana.

Some of her constituents in district 23 also want to know why she voted for the Iran agreement.

Wasserman Schultz has never had to answer for her record, until now.

That’s because she hasn’t had a primary opponent since her very first election.

With CD-23 being a safe democratic seat, and no viable opponent challenging her, she has had an easy road in previous elections, never having to be confronted with her record.

Several local entities have offered to host debates between Wasserman Schultz and Canova.

What is Wasserman Schultz afraid of? Why is she running from Canova?

And make no mistake about it, she is running from the subject of debates.

In one video posted online, a constituent of hers asked her if she was going to debate Canova, and you would have thought she was Usain Bolt the way she ran away.

Wasserman Schultz got President Obama to endorse her, as well as Vice President Biden.

Guess what?

The people of Congressional District 23 do not call the President or Vice President when they are wondering why there are no jobs in CD 23.

They do not call the President or Vice President when wondering why Wasserman Schultz voted for the TPP, or why she has taken money from, and backed, the PayDay loan industry or the Private Prison industry.

So essentially, the endorsements of President Obama and Vice President Biden look good on paper, but the voters in CD23 could care less.

They want answers.

Now that they have a choice in who represents them in Congress, Wasserman Schultz’s answers better be good!

Donald Trump, Gwen Margolis, Racism, And The Democratic Party http://mywomenonthemove.com/donald-trump-gwen-margolis-racism-and-the-democratic-party/ http://mywomenonthemove.com/donald-trump-gwen-margolis-racism-and-the-democratic-party/#comments Thu, 09 Jun 2016 00:18:53 +0000 http://mywomenonthemove.com/?p=1554 Leslie W 2015Donald Trump is in the news for making racist statements. What else is new, right?

We’ve come to expect this behavior from Donald Trump.

This time, the Republican nominee for the President of The United States of America said that a judge presiding over a case involving him, Judge Gonzalo Curiel, can’t do his job because of his Mexican heritage.

The cries of racism from the left are deafening, and rightfully so. This amounts to an attack on a man simply because he is Mexican American.

Racist.

Fast forward to a couple of days ago at the Sunny Isles Democratic Club, where state senator Gwen Margolis made the statement:

“It’s reprehensible that three Haitians, some teacher and some lawyer think they have the right to run against me.”

Gwen Margolis went on to say:

“I have unlimited funds, and I’m going to spend every penny, and I’m not going to lose to those three Haitians or some teacher or lawyer.”

Those three Haitians?

What makes what Margolis said any less racist than what Trump said?

The answer is nothing. She made racist statements that have no place in the Democratic Party.

Will Democrats be as quick to call Margolis out for her racism as they are to call out Trump, or any Republican, for that matter?

Does Margolis get a pass for being a racist because she is a Democrat?

The answer should be no.

Gwen Margolis should get the same treatment that a Republican racist would get from our Democratic leaders, or the outrage they profess to have regarding the racism of Republicans will seem phony.

Interestingly enough, Sunny Isles is in Congressional District 23, the district of DNC Chair, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Will Wasserman Schultz stand up for her Haitian constituents?

They need to know that she, indeed, is the representative for everyone in her district, and not a select few.

Here Wasserman Schultz has the opportunity to show the Haitian Community that they matter. She has the opportunity to show the entire country that her outrage at the racist comments uttered by Donald Trump is genuine, and not just political posturing.

If Wasserman Schultz, along with other Democratic leaders in Florida, do not disavow Gwen Margolis’ statements, then how can they, in good conscience, say anything about Donald Trump?

Black people, to include Haitians, living in both Senate District 38, and Congressional District 23 should pay very close attention to who stands up for them, and who does not.

Gwen Margolis meant what she said. She does not believe Haitians have the right to run against her.

That tells me how she feels about African Americans, Jamaican Americans, Hispanics, and anyone who isn’t just like her.

To say nothing about Margolis’ racism, as Democratic leaders and representatives of people of color, tells me about Wasserman Schultz and the Florida Democratic Party.

It says that they want the votes of people of color, who vote predominantly Democratic, but will not stand up for people of color unless it’s against a Republican.

Democratic racism is ok.

Something tells me we won’t hear a peep out of Wasserman Schultz or the party. I sincerely hope I am wrong.

Wasserman Schultz is due to speak at an upcoming Haitian American luncheon in Broward County. She is in a primary battle with Tim Canova and wants their vote.

I hope they are paying attention.

Congressional Black Caucus PAC Can’t Help Debt Trap Debbie Wasserman Schultz http://mywomenonthemove.com/congressional-black-caucus-pac-cant-help-debt-trap-debbie-wasserman-schultz/ http://mywomenonthemove.com/congressional-black-caucus-pac-cant-help-debt-trap-debbie-wasserman-schultz/#comments Sat, 28 May 2016 03:29:29 +0000 http://mywomenonthemove.com/?p=1547 Leslie W 2015Yesterday the Congressional Black Caucus PAC, with a 20-member board including 11 lobbyists, 7 elected officials, and 2 people who work for the PAC, endorsed Debbie Wasserman Schultz. The CBC-PAC is the political arm of the Congressional Black Caucus.

If this is supposed to mean that Black folks have confidence in Debt-Trap Debbie, the CBC-PAC, Debt-Trap Debbie, and anyone else believing that hype, is sorely mistaken.

The African American community in Congressional District 23 is not feeling Debbie Wasserman Schultz AT ALL.

Getting a pseudo Black organization that is run primarily by lobbyists to endorse Debbie isn’t worth a thing here in South Florida.

Notwithstanding the fact that Debbie’s support of the payday loan industry helps keep the African American community disproportionately trapped in a cycle of debt, paying upwards of 300% on predatory payday loans that Debbie doesn’t want legislated, Debbie has not addressed the main thing plaguing the African American community in her district.

Jobs.

In the words of Janet Jackson, “What have you done for me lately?”

What has Debbie done for the African Americans in Congressional District 23? If African Americans in her district held a forum to address issues with her, would she attend?

In reading the press release by the CBC-PAC, all they talked about was what Debbie supposedly did, of any significance, as DNC Chair.

Sorry Debbie, but you can’t mix that job with representing your Community in Congressional District 23.

It has become abundantly clear that Debbie hasn’t been present in the African American Community in CD23.

The fact that there was nothing substantial that the lobbyists making up the CBC-PAC could name that Debbie did for African Americans in her district is pathetic.

I’m sure at the eleventh hour Debbie will grab some Black legislators and run through a few Black churches.

She may even get Alcee Hastings and Frederica Wilson to get her a 1-day buddy pass into the Black community.

We still aren’t buying it.

The fact of the matter is this: Tim Canova is all over Debbie Wasserman Schultz like a cheap suit and she is running scared.

Democracy For America endorsed Tim Canova, so Debbie called up her lobbyist friends and decided to kill two birds with one stone: Attempt to appeal to Black people and get an endorsement to break up Tim Canova’s string of news releases.

I knew Debbie was desperate for positive news coverage when she announced that she had qualified to be on the ballot.

Really?

She needed to announce that?

Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, that CBC-PAC board includes the following lobbyists:

  1. Daron Watts: Purdue Pharma, makes OxyContin
  2.  Mike McKay: Navient, student loans
  3. Chaka Burgess: Navient, Student Loans
  4. Al Wynn: Lorillard Tobacco: Newport Cigarettes

Those are just some of the lobbyists, but you get the picture.

The CBC-PAC wouldn’t endorse Donna Edwards, an African American woman who was running for a U.S. Senate seat in Maryland, but they endorse Debt-Trap Debbie here in Florida?

Now that could be because the person Donna beat for her House seat was none other than Al Wynn, and he still felt some type of way about it!

At any rate, the 13% African Americans living in Congressional District 23 should get behind Tim Canova.

It’s time Debbie did something she has never done before.

Work in the private sector.
